Year 6 Students Explore the Torrens to Darlington Project

27 Aug 2026

In Week 4, our Year 6 students from both St John’s and St Peters campuses had the exciting opportunity to learn more about the Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Project through a visit from the T2D Community Outreach Team.

The session provided students with an insight into the scale and complexity of this major infrastructure project, which will transform how people travel through Adelaide. Engineers from a range of fields also joined the session to share their expertise and explain how their different roles contribute to the project.

It was particularly special to hear from members of our own College community. A huge thank you to Argenis Rodriguez (Fire Safety Lead), Mathieu Gonzalez (Engineering and Sustainability Director) and John Slade (Engineering Manager) for generously sharing their knowledge, experiences and career insights with our students.

The visit connected beautifully with our Year 6 Urban Planning and Design unit, where students are exploring how engineers, designers and planners solve complex problems and create infrastructure that meets the needs of communities.

To extend their learning, students also constructed their own model of the tunnel boring machines, considering how these enormous machines are used to construct tunnels and the engineering challenges involved.

It was a fantastic opportunity for students to see how the concepts they are learning in the classroom connect to real-world projects happening right here in Adelaide.
